KENTUCKY DERBY DAYS Supporters of Westwind Community Barn held three successful fundraisers in 2004, 2005, and 2006 at Maple Leaf Farm, the magnificent private barn of Alex and Cathy Mendez. Elegantly attired guests celebrated the Kentucky Derby with a buffet lunch, followed by an exciting auction conducted by a colorful, professional auctioneer. Guests then watched the race on a big screen in the barn. The festivities began with a welcome reception which included fine wines and hors d’oeuvres, bourbon tasting, a cigar bar, a mint “jewel-up” raffle, a silent auction, and live jazz. Local trainers conducted an impressive jumping demonstration in the riding ring before lunch. |

About Maple Leaf Farm The passion which the owners of Maple Leaf Farm share for their riding horses is evident in this impressive facility completed in 2003. Maple Leaf Farm is privately owned and not open to the public. It was designed to accommodate the needs of several riders on horses engaged in simultaneous activities. The owners themselves ride and employ a trainer to further their knowledge of the equestrian sport. The horses travel from Maple Leaf Farm for nearly half the year, as both the owners and the trainer compete at Horse Shows at locations throughout the country and occasionally around the world. |
